SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL LIFE (Week 5) – "A Break Amidst the Pile of School Works"

Week 5: A Break Amidst the Pile of School Works

This week was nothing short of hectic. Between classes, assignments, and all the usual chaos, I could feel the stress building up. Every day felt like a race against time—trying to finish tasks, studying for quizzes, and keeping up with everything. It’s like my to-do list had no end. Just when I thought I’d be stuck in that cycle all week, something unexpected happened.

My family decided to pick us up from the boarding house. I didn’t even know they were planning anything! They brought us to watch a local basketball tournament at Mandaon, Msbate, and we were there to support the players representing our province. At first, I wasn’t sure if I could even enjoy it with all the schoolwork weighing on my mind, but the moment we arrived at the court, something shifted.

The atmosphere was electric, with the sound of shoes squeaking on the court, people cheering from the bleachers, and the excitement in the air. It felt like stepping into a completely different world—one where deadlines didn’t exist and all that mattered was the game in front of us. I didn’t realize how much I needed that escape. Sitting there with my family, rooting for our team, I finally felt like I could breathe. It was more than just a game—it was a break I didn’t know I was craving.

It wasn’t just the thrill of the match that got to me, though. It was the simplicity of it all. Being surrounded by people who were there to support each other, sharing in the highs and lows of the game—it reminded me that life isn’t just about the stress of school. Sometimes, it’s about these little moments that make you forget everything else.

Just as we were caught up in the excitement, cheering as the players fought hard for every basket, my phone buzzed. We received a message: No class tomorrow due to an earthquake. At that moment, my stress about school disappeared completely. It was like the universe knew we all needed a break, not just from school but from everything.

The tournament became a kind of therapy. It wasn’t just a game anymore—it was a way to reset, recharge, and forget about the usual routine, even for just a little while. Sometimes, you don’t realize how much you need to step away until you actually do it.

By the end of the day, even though I knew the next week would bring more challenges, I felt lighter. That basketball game, the unexpected suspension of classes, and the time spent with family—all of it reminded me that there’s more to life than school stress. And sometimes, when things feel overwhelming, the best thing you can do is take a break, step away for a while, and just breathe.
